Holiday Snaps
I finally got round to sifting through my holiday pics... so here is a small selection as promised. I can honestly say, hand on my heart, that San Sebastian is the prettiest city I've ever laid eyes on. The food itself is reason enough to visit, we spent 5 glorious days feasting on pinxos (Basque tapas), brioche and ice cream. The restaurants were wonderful at every price point but my stand out favourite experience was eating at the famous and very classy Arzak, a birthday treat I will remember forever. The sights were worthy of a camera better than ours but that didn't stop us snapping tons of pictures of the ruggedly beautiful Basque landscape. I have always felt most at home near the sea and the coast along San Sebastian is truly dramatic. We viewed it from every possible vantage point- from the paved promenade of the Playa de la Concha, the peak of Mount Igueldo and the site of Eduardo Chillida's 'The Wind Comb (Peine del Viento)' We also took a day trip to Bilbao to visit the Guggenheim Museum. The building itself is a work of art in its own right. Designed by Frank Gehry and constructed of a seamless swirl of titanium, stone and glass, the building appears to undulate as it catches the light from all angles. The artwork within became almost secondary to the sight of Jeff Koon's enormous floral puppy standing guard of this impressive structure! All in all, it was an amazing holiday and San Sebastian left such an impact on me that I convinced myself that I would have a holiday home there one day! Don't be too surprised if you see some Basque influences in future collections
